winter waltzing

On the way back from putting up posters at Dillon Gym for Swing Club lessons, Leo and I on a whim dropped our stuff by a lamppost and waltzed our way around one of the snowy white lawns on the way up to the New GC.

It was harder than you might think, waltzing on a gently rolling lawn that you can't really see under a crust of snow, feeling all clumsy in your winter coat and boots, trying to share the headphones of an MP3 player between the two of you without having the earpieces slip out of your ears. Plus I kept getting dizzy and stepping on Leo and nearly falling. So much for having learned a little grace over the years...

Climbing the stairs back up to my room I could feel the snow soaking down my socks into my boots, but it was totally worth it.

the most beautiful things are the most ephemeral

Today Andrew and I went to NYC to take a look at the "Gates" art installation in Central Park. It was indeed, as I guessed it would be, much about watching people watch people taking pictures of people staring at the Gates. But it was worth seeing, for the experience of people reacting to a project which has made an indelible visual imprint on people's visions of Central Park.

Afterwards we had lunch at Penang, and then I went shopping at the Capezio store on West 51st (between 7th and 8th) so that I would have a pair of ballet slippers for my ballgown on Friday (for the Formal). Once we got back there was the Madison Medalist awards dinner to attend.

I'm totally exhausted, but it was a lovely day.

long dark silence of the soul

Haven't been blogging because I've been a bit stressed about everything. I guess things are going ok for the moment, more or less.

The only piece of good news I have to share is that I won the position I was running for in the House elections, so I will get to keep my room for next year.
