dreams

So Jeff says that I should be recording my dreams somewhere, lest their bizarre content be lost to posterity, and I have nothing else I feel like writing about at the moment. Hence this post. Interpretations are welcome in the comments section.

I woke up twice last night, and so I have two sets of dreams to record.

1. I dreamt that I was cleaning out a freezer that was full of bags of frozen chicken. The bags were tagged with April and May expiry dates, but I wasn't sure if those still applied if the chicken was being kept in a freezer. To my left, outside the freezer, was a box of Popsicles, the brightly colored kind. It was 90 degrees out, but they weren't melting, which made me highly suspicious of their ingredients.

2. I dreamt that I was at some kind of ritzy lakefront vacation area. Large 'cabins' in a woodsy area. I walked by one that was mostly glass-fronted, with high ceilings and long draping curtains; two men were lounging in armchairs before a fireplace; in their room was a tremendous canopied bed with black satin sheets. But the next cabin over was mine, and I was alone, thinking that at least if I was alone, it would be a nice place to be alone.

Well, my cabin was just full of pianos. Eleven pianos, to be exact. Big black grand pianos, white lacquered baby grand pianos, Victorian pianos painted cream with tiny rosebuds, plain wooden pianos, even a piano covered in leather. They completely filled the place, as if it was being used for storage. The weird thing (my mind told me) about this situation was that the piano benches were all mismatched. I was looking around the room trying to figure out which benches ought to be moved where to go with the matching piano, when someone came in and removed one of the pianos. Wait! I thought. Now one of the pianos will never have its matching bench...

And then there was the dream from yesterday.

3. I was in charge of a champion wrestler (a Disney-style hero with golden hair and all sorts of muscles), but he had a nervous breakdown and was lying in the ring all curled up, crying. I was physically trying to pull him off the floor, but I was just little me, and he was really big, and it was not working. The crowd was booing us.

There will be more real blogging, I promise, once my August 15 deadline is past.

in the papers

This picture of me and Mike, taken by Leo, appeared in the Princeton Packet on 7/15/2005, and in the U.S. 1 on 7/13/2005 as part of a press release for Jersey Jumpers.

super-sized stressing

Haven't been blogging in awhile because I've been feeling pretty stressed over impending deadlines.

Last night I dreamed that in addition to my two parakeets, I had at some point adopted a blue whale, a killer whale, and a dolphin, and I was trying to figure out how to move them between New York and California. Authorities were refusing to let me move them through various waters, and I couldn't find a boat to take them their buckets of food.

It would be really nice if my brain didn't get so creative with its worrying. I really do have enough to be concerned about without adding in massive imaginary pets.

mini-odyssey

So here I am in Oxnard, California. Tired and sleep-deprived.

My mom decided that we ought to take the overnight Greyhound bus, so a few hours after I got to the Bay Area we drove down to San Jose and got in line for the late-night 12:40 bus to Oxnard.

Unfortunately they needed two more buses, given the number of passengers in the terminal, but they didn't have any more drivers on hand, so we were going to have to wait there till 2 am (we had gotten there at 11 pm) for the buses to arrive. There was one bus in the lot, about to depart, and it was supposedly full.

My mom went and told off the driver, and lo and behold, four seats materialized. However, we ended up stranded in North Hollywood at 7:30 am, because the bus had waited around so long in San Jose that we missed our connection to Oxnard.

My uncle Jaime drove all the way to Oxnard to pick us up. But he went to North Hollywood, and when he figured out his mistake, he still drove around and around the area, lost, looking for the Greyhound terminal. By the time he found us it was 10:30 am.

We had some dim sum, went shopping in Chinatown, where I found a really pretty golden embroidered dress I liked...but it was $50, so I didn't get it. I got a ton of coffee candy instead. Then we went to his house for a bit before stopping by the hotel to drop our stuff off. Hungry again, we ate at a little Japanese place, before going to get haircuts (I trimmed about 6 inches off). We went to the grocery store on the way back to the house, where we are now.

8 hours yesterday, 12 hours today...I've spent 20 hours of the last 48 in transit. No wonder I'm tired.

there's no place like home

My parents picked me up from SFO and took me to Filipino food in Daly City. Yummmm.
